Volunteering – We need you:

Volunteering with the P&C is a great way to make valuable contributions to help foster your child’s learning. You do not have to be a member to volunteer. What’s your just one thing that you could do to help pitch in and contribute to our school community?  Some of the ways to get involved: 
  • Attend P&C meetings – 2nd Tuesday monthly during term time, 6pm, N Block staff room 
  • Join the P&C committee – Roles include President, Vice President (vacant), Treasurer, Secretary, Grants Liaison Officer, Community Engagement Liaison Officer, Swim Club Liaison Officer
  • Be a class or year level representative 
  • Coordinate or help at one of our annual fundraising or community engagement events
  • 2025 only – help Coordinate or help run a stall at our 150th WECelebrate Fiesta
  • Join our Morning Chit Chats at the WESS P&C cafe once a term
  • Volunteer at the Uniform ShopTuckshop or Swim Club (term 1 & 4 only)

 

Needed skills:

Volunteering for a Parents and Citizens’ (P&C) organisation can involve a wide range of activities and responsibilities, so many skills can be valuable. We can accomodate 10 years plus volunteers, however anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied or supported by a parent or guardian when volunteering. Here are some of the most needed and useful skills:

Event Planning and Management

    • Organising school events, fundraisers, and community gatherings.
    • Coordinating logistics like venues, catering, and schedules.
    • Coordinating a sausage sizzle or bake sale.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

    • Writing newsletters, announcements, or social media posts.
    • Liaising with parents, staff, and the broader school community – community engagement.

Financial and Administrative Skills

    • Managing budgets, tracking expenses, and bookkeeping.
    • Applying for grants and preparing financial reports.
    • Recording meeting minutes and ensuring proper documentation.
    • Policy writing and WHS risk assessment and management.

Creative and Design Skills

    • Designing promotional materials such as flyers, posters, or social media graphics.
    • Creating engaging content for newsletters or websites.
    • Photography, filming and editing.
    • Crafting and making handmade goods to sell.
    • DJ or sound engineer

Leadership and Coordination

    • Leading committees or sub-groups for specific projects.
    • Delegating tasks and ensuring follow-through.

Technical Skills

    • Website maintenance, database management, or email systems.
    • Proficiency with tools like spreadsheets, presentation software, or design programs.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft office and Sharepoint.

Hands-On Skills

    • Setting up or packing down events – event clean up.
    • Serving alcohol RSA.
    • 1st Aid Officer at an event.
    • BBQ duty.
    • Baking for bake sales.
    • Customer service – cooking and serving food.
    • Gardening, painting, or simple construction for school improvement projects.
    • Packing orders, help with fittings and washing 2nd hand items – Uniform Shop.
    • Ice block sales, packing and organising lunches for Tuckshop – one off or weekly spots.
    • Time-keeping, marshalling, or race starting – SWIM CLUB Thursday nights term 1 & 4

Fundraising and Sponsorship Outreach

    • Developing fundraising ideas and campaigns.
    • Approaching businesses for sponsorships or donations.
Volunteering in a P&C often requires a mix of these skills, and contributions in any area can make a big difference! Do you have any useful skills that you could share? P&Cs are also a great way to make new friends and share skills so you could learn some new skills to. Big or small, we value and welcome all volunteer contributions!
